Combination Hair Treatment London. PRP With Minoxidil, Microneedling And More

Pattern hair loss responds best when treatments that work in different ways are combined. Minoxidil lengthens the growth phase, PRP delivers growth factors to the follicle, and microneedling triggers a repair response and helps treatments reach the scalp. Trials show that adding PRP to minoxidil, or microneedling to minoxidil, gives more hair than minoxidil alone. The right combination depends on your diagnosis, what you are comfortable taking, and your goals.

Key points

  • A 2024 meta-analysis of 5 randomised trials in PLOS ONE found hair density was higher with PRP plus minoxidil than with minoxidil alone at 1, 3 and 6 months, although the certainty of the evidence was rated low.

  • In a 2013 trial of 100 men, microneedling with minoxidil grew 91.4 hairs per square centimetre in 12 weeks, against 22.2 with minoxidil alone.

  • PRP on its own has the largest evidence base of the clinic treatments, with a 2025 meta-analysis of 43 randomised trials and 1,877 participants.

  • At The London PRP Clinic by The Wellness, a course of 3 PRP sessions is from Β£1,200, microneedling is from Β£290 per session, and ExoRevive is Β£495 per session with 10 percent off when combined with hair PRP.

Why combinations work

Hair loss has several drivers. In pattern hair loss, follicles shrink under hormonal influence, the growth phase shortens and blood supply to the follicle reduces. A single treatment usually acts on 1 of these. Combining treatments that act on different drivers gives each a better chance of working and, in trials, more hair overall. The principle is the same as in many areas of medicine, where 2 treatments with different mechanisms often outperform a higher dose of 1.

The combinations with evidence

PRP with minoxidil

Minoxidil lengthens the growth phase and improves blood flow to the follicle. PRP supplies growth factors that support the follicle and the cells around it. In the 2024 meta-analysis by Yao and colleagues, 5 randomised trials compared PRP plus topical minoxidil with minoxidil alone. Hair density was higher with the combination at every time point, by around 11 hairs per square centimetre at 1 month and around 18 at 6 months. The authors rated the evidence as low certainty and called for larger trials, which is a fair reading. In practice, it is the combination we recommend most often. See PRP vs minoxidil.

Microneedling with minoxidil

In the 2013 trial by Dhurat and colleagues, men using weekly microneedling with minoxidil grew about 4 times more hair than men using minoxidil alone at 12 weeks. A 2024 meta-analysis of 8 randomised trials and 472 patients confirmed a significant gain in hair count when microneedling was added. A 2026 trial of 245 women using 2 percent minoxidil found no significant extra benefit, so we tailor this to the individual. See microneedling for hair loss.

PRP with microneedling

Microneedling is also used to deliver PRP across the scalp in the same session, which makes biological sense and is widely used. Head-to-head trials of this combination are smaller, so we present it as a sensible option rather than a proven superior one.

Where exosomes fit

Exosome-based therapy, such as ExoRevive, is a newer regenerative option that can be added to PRP. Its evidence base is earlier and smaller than PRP’s, and we explain that before anyone decides. It suits people who want to add a newer option to an established plan rather than replace one.

Common combination plans

For men who want to avoid finasteride

A course of PRP with topical or low-dose oral minoxidil, with or without microneedling. Our guide is finasteride alternatives.

For men happy to take a hormone-acting medicine

Finasteride, after a proper discussion of the MHRA warnings, with minoxidil and a course of PRP for the strongest overall effect.

For women with pattern thinning

Topical minoxidil with a course of PRP, after correcting any deficiency in iron, thyroid or vitamin D. See the best hair loss treatment for women.

For anyone who has plateaued on minoxidil

Adding PRP, microneedling or both, after checking for a missed cause such as low ferritin. See the hair loss blood panel.

Starting a combination safely

Diagnosis comes first, because combining treatments for the wrong cause doubles the cost without helping. Start minoxidil knowing an early shed is common and usually temporary, as explained in the minoxidil shedding phase. Do not apply minoxidil immediately after microneedling unless your doctor advises it, because absorption increases. Low-dose oral minoxidil is a prescription treatment that needs a doctor’s assessment, explained in oral minoxidil. Minoxidil and many hair medicines are not suitable in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

How we build and measure your plan

You are assessed with a full scalp examination and trichoscopy, with standardised photographs. A blood panel arranged by The Online GP by The Wellness and processed by an accredited partner laboratory checks ferritin, thyroid function, vitamin D, B12, zinc and, where relevant, hormones. You then receive a written combination plan that sets out each element, its cost and what to expect, with reviews at around 3 and 6 months against your starting photographs. Across our hair restoration work, we report a 32 percent average density increase at 6 months. What a full course should include is set out in PRP hair package London, and the evidence across treatments is in PRP success rates.

What it costs

Flagship Harley Street and Mayfair clinics commonly charge Β£600 to Β£850 or more per PRP session, before microneedling or other additions.

At The London PRP Clinic by The Wellness, there are 3 ways to begin.

A hair consultation with full scalp examination and trichoscopy is from Β£300, included when you choose a course.

A course of 3 PRP sessions is from Β£1,200, and microneedling can be added from Β£290 per session.

ExoRevive exosome-based therapy is Β£495 per session, with 10 percent off when combined with hair PRP.

Frequently asked questions about combination hair treatment

Is PRP better with minoxidil?

A 2024 meta-analysis of 5 randomised trials found higher hair density with PRP plus minoxidil than with minoxidil alone at 1, 3 and 6 months, although the evidence was rated low certainty.

Can I combine PRP and microneedling?

Yes. Microneedling is often used to deliver PRP in the same session. Microneedling with minoxidil has stronger trial evidence, and the PRP combination is a sensible option with smaller trials.

Should I add exosomes to PRP?

Exosome-based therapy is a newer option with an earlier, smaller evidence base than PRP. It can be added to an established PRP plan after discussing the evidence.

What is the best combination treatment for hair loss?

It depends on the cause and what you are comfortable taking. For many people with pattern hair loss, minoxidil with a course of PRP, with or without microneedling, is the strongest option without hormone-acting medicines.

Can I use minoxidil straight after microneedling?

Not unless your doctor advises it, because absorption increases after microneedling and so can side effects.

How much does combination hair treatment cost in London?

At The London PRP Clinic by The Wellness, a course of 3 PRP sessions is from Β£1,200, microneedling from Β£290 per session, and ExoRevive Β£495 per session with 10 percent off alongside hair PRP.
