PRP for loose stomach skin: what it can and cannot do

Evidence checked as of October 2026. Written by The Wellness Team.

Can PRP tighten loose stomach skin?

The gap between those two outcomes is where most disappointment in this market lives, so it pays to be plain about it.

What results are realistic?

The realistic outcome is better skin quality: smoother, firmer, less crepey, with any improvement building over three to six months as collagen remodels. Studies of PRP for skin rejuvenation show improvements in texture and elasticity measures rather than dramatic lifting, but those studies are not abdominal, so the response of stomach skin is uncertain rather than assured. A course of sessions, usually three or more spaced a few weeks apart, is the standard approach, with maintenance once or twice a year.

If your goal is skin that looks and feels healthier and firmer in clothes and in daylight, PRP is a reasonable option. If your goal is a flat, tight stomach after pregnancy or major weight loss, it is not, and that deserves a plain answer before treatment starts, not after three sessions.

When is PRP the wrong treatment?

Significant loose skin that folds or hangs, marked laxity after major weight change, and diastasis recti, where the abdominal muscles have separated, are structural problems. Injections do not fix structure. Diastasis responds to targeted physiotherapy and, in some cases, surgery; true excess skin responds to surgery. A proper assessment checks for both, because treating crepey skin over an unrecognised muscle separation wastes your money and your months.

What does treatment involve?

A small blood sample is taken and spun to concentrate the platelets, and the PRP is then placed into the skin of the abdomen with fine injections, often combined with microneedling to improve delivery. The appointment takes under an hour. Expect redness, swelling and sometimes bruising for a few days; most people return to normal activity the next day and to exercise shortly after. Because it uses your own blood, allergic reaction is not a concern.

What are the alternatives?

Depending on the assessment, the honest menu includes polynucleotide treatments for skin quality, energy-based devices such as radiofrequency for tighter laxity, targeted physiotherapy for muscle separation, and surgical opinion for excess skin. Sometimes the right answer is a combination; sometimes it is a referral. The consultation is where that gets sorted, with the trade-offs on the table.

As of October 2026, a consultation at The London PRP Clinic is Β£150, with a treatment plan and pricing confirmed before anything proceeds.

Evidence and limits

A systematic review of the safety and effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for skin ageing: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31628542/

This is general information, not a personal treatment plan. Suitability for abdominal PRP depends on an examination, including whether a muscle separation is present.
