The single most common mistake before a wedding is starting too late, and the second is having something new done too close to the day. Regenerative treatments such as PRP build results over months rather than weeks, so the useful work happens between 12 months and 3 months out. After that the job is protecting what you have, not adding to it. This is the full countdown, including the cut-off dates.

Why timing matters more than the treatment

Regenerative treatment works by stimulating your own biology, which takes time. PRP uses growth factors concentrated from your own blood, and the tissue response unfolds over weeks and months rather than days. That is why the same treatment can be excellent 9 months before a wedding and pointless 3 weeks before.

Hair is the slowest of all, because the hair cycle itself is slow. A 2025 meta-analysis in Dermatology and Therapy pooling 43 randomised controlled trials and 1,877 participants found PRP increases hair density, and the pattern across those trials is that reduced shedding appears within 1 to 2 months, visible thickening from around 3 months, and the fullest result between 6 and 12 months. A course started 4 months before a wedding will be halfway through its arc on the day.

Skin moves faster but still works in months. A course of 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart takes roughly 3 months to deliver, with the result continuing to improve for several weeks afterwards.

The 12 month countdown

12 months out. Assess and diagnose

This is where hair is either solved or not. Book a full assessment covering examination, dermoscopy and blood tests. Hair thinning is frequently driven or worsened by low ferritin, thyroid dysfunction or low vitamin D, and correcting those takes months in itself before any treatment has a fair chance.

If you are considering anything at all for your skin, this is also the moment to establish what is actually bothering you, because skin quality, volume loss and structural change are three different problems with three different answers, and treating the wrong one is how people end up disappointed.

9 months out. Start the hair course

If hair is a concern for either partner, the course starts now. That typically means 3 PRP sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, with medication added where appropriate. Pooled data show PRP combined with topical minoxidil outperforms either alone.

Grooms in particular tend to leave this far too late. A man noticing a thinning crown 4 months before his wedding has missed most of the window. At 9 months there is time for a full course and for the results to mature.

6 months out. Start the skin course

Comfortable timing for a course of 3 PRP facial sessions, or polynucleotides where the concern is thin, crepey under-eye skin. Both are bio-stimulators that improve the quality of the tissue rather than adding volume, and both build progressively.

This is also the point to correct anything structural if that is what you have decided to do, because volume treatments need time to settle and be reviewed.

3 months out. Final active sessions

The last session of any course should ideally land here. There is still time for the result to mature, and if anything settles unevenly there is time to review and adjust before the day.

6 weeks out. The cut-off

No new treatments after this point, and nothing you have not had before. Six weeks allows for bruising, swelling and the small chance that your skin behaves differently from last time.

2 weeks out. Nothing invasive

Skincare, sleep, hydration and sun protection only. Under-eye skin is the thinnest on the body and bruises readily, and a bruise 10 days before a wedding is a stressful problem that is entirely avoidable.

What we would actually recommend, and what we would not

Worth doing

Hair PRP where there is early thinning and the follicles are still viable, started early enough to complete a course and mature.

PRP for skin quality, where the concern is texture, dullness, fine lines and tired-looking skin rather than volume.

Polynucleotides for thin, crepey under-eye skin, which suits that area well because it improves the tissue rather than filling it.

Correcting anything found on blood tests, which is the cheapest intervention available and frequently the one that makes the most visible difference to hair and skin.

Not worth doing

Anything for the first time inside 6 weeks. This is the rule we are strictest about, and we will decline it.

Under-eye filler in the final months, because it can cause puffiness and a bluish tinge that takes weeks to resolve and requires dissolving to correct.

A stack of different treatments started at once, which makes it impossible to tell what worked and what caused a problem.

Treating a structural hollow with a skin-quality treatment, or the reverse. This is the most common mismatch we see and no amount of good timing rescues it.

The honest limits

PRP improves the quality and density of tissue that is still alive. It does not fill hollows, it does not lift, and it does not regrow hair from follicles that have already closed. Where those are the issue, we will say so and explain what would actually help, including when that is something we do not offer.

Results also vary between people. The evidence base for PRP in hair loss is strong, the evidence for polynucleotides is promising but smaller, and nobody can guarantee a specific outcome by a specific date. That is precisely why we build in margin and why the cut-off rules exist.
