PRP Consultation London. What Happens At Your First Appointment

A good PRP consultation should end with a diagnosis and a clear answer, not a sales pitch. At The London PRP Clinic by The Wellness, the first step is a free doctor-led suitability review. A GMC-registered doctor assesses you, arranges the blood tests or ultrasound you need, and tells you plainly whether PRP is right for you. You leave with a written plan and a cost, or an honest explanation of what would serve you better.

Key points

  • The first step is a free doctor-led suitability review, not a booking. There is no obligation to proceed.

  • For hair, the doctor examines your scalp under magnification and arranges blood tests, because low ferritin and thyroid problems are common reasons PRP underperforms.

  • For joints and tendons, the doctor examines you and scans the problem with ultrasound, which confirms the diagnosis at the same visit.

  • You leave with one of two answers. Approved, with a written plan and cost, or not approved, with the next step that would serve you better.

Before you come

How to book

Send a message on WhatsApp, email team@thewellnesslondon.com or call +44 20 3951 3429. Tell us briefly what you would like help with. We will arrange your review at 10 Portman Square in Marylebone or the Light Centre in Belgravia, whichever is easier for you.

What to bring

Any blood results from the last 12 months, including from your GP or from abroad. Reading tests you already have saves you time and money.

Any scans or imaging reports for joint or tendon problems.

A list of your medication and supplements, including any blood thinners.

For hair, photographs of your hair from a year or two ago if you have them. They show how much has changed better than memory can.

For joints, a note of what you have already tried, such as physiotherapy, injections or rehabilitation, and for how long.

What the doctor will ask

For hair loss

When you first noticed it, and whether it came on gradually or suddenly. Whether anything happened 2 to 3 months before it started, such as illness, an operation, childbirth, stopping the pill or rapid weight loss. Your family history. Your periods, if relevant. Your diet and any weight-loss medication. What you have already tried.

For joints and tendons

What you do for work and exercise, and what changed before the pain started. What makes it worse and better. Whether the joint locks, catches or gives way, which suggests a mechanical problem that needs a different approach. What rehabilitation and injections you have had.

For the face

What bothers you when you look in the mirror. Whether it is how your skin looks and feels, a hollow, or looseness. What you have had before, and how you felt about the result.

What the doctor will do

Hair

Examine your scalp with dermoscopy, a magnifying instrument that shows whether follicles are healthy, shrinking or scarred. Stage your hair loss on the Norwood or Ludwig scale. Arrange blood tests including full iron studies, full thyroid function with antibodies, vitamin D, B12, folate and zinc, run from the same clinic. The reasoning behind each marker is in the hair loss blood panel.

Joints and tendons

Examine the joint or tendon and the areas that commonly refer pain to it. Scan it with ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis and rule out a tear or other cause.

Face

Assess your skin and facial structure to work out whether your concern is skin quality, volume or structure. Only the first responds to PRP.

What you leave with

One of two answers, always in plain language.

Approved for treatment. You receive your diagnosis, where the evidence sits for your condition, how many sessions you need and at what interval, what to expect at 3, 6 and 12 months, what runs alongside such as medication or rehabilitation, and the total cost. You can take time to decide.

Not approved. You receive an honest explanation and a next step. That might be correcting a deficiency and reviewing in a few months, a structured rehabilitation programme, a referral to a consultant dermatologist or surgeon, or reassurance that nothing needs treating.

We decline a meaningful share of enquiries. It is the part of the service people value most, because it means a yes can be trusted.

If you go ahead

Your first treatment

Allow 45 to 60 minutes. Most of that is the blood draw, preparation and numbing rather than the injections. Eat beforehand and stay hydrated. Most people return to normal activities the same day.

Follow-up

Progress is reviewed against your starting point. For hair, that means standardised photographs and repeat dermoscopy at around 3 and 6 months. For joints, it means a review of pain, function and rehabilitation progress. If something is not responding, we say so and change the plan rather than selling more of the same.

What it costs

The suitability review is free. For treatment, flagship Harley Street and Mayfair clinics commonly charge £600 to £850 or more per hair PRP session and from around £780 to £900 or more per image-guided joint injection. Our care is doctor-led and priced below those rates, and your exact figure is set out in writing before you commit.

Frequently asked questions about PRP consultations

Is the PRP consultation free?

Yes. The first step is a free doctor-led suitability review, with no obligation to proceed.

What happens at a PRP consultation?

A GMC-registered doctor takes your history, examines you, arranges blood tests or ultrasound where needed, and tells you whether PRP is right for you, with a written plan and cost if it is.

What should I bring to my PRP consultation?

Any blood results from the last 12 months, scans for joint problems, a list of medication and supplements, and for hair, older photographs if you have them.

Will I have treatment on the same day?

Usually not at the first visit, because diagnosis and blood results come first. For some joint problems, where the diagnosis is clear on ultrasound, treatment can sometimes follow promptly.

What if PRP is not right for me?

We will tell you, explain why, and give you a next step. That might be correcting a deficiency, rehabilitation, a referral to a specialist, or reassurance.

Where are consultations held?

At 10 Portman Square, London W1H 6AZ, and the Light Centre, 9 Eccleston Street, London SW1W 9LX.
