PRP Facial London. What It Does And Who It Suits

A PRP facial, often called a vampire facial, delivers platelets from your own blood into the skin to improve texture, thickness and tone. It is best supported for acne scarring. A 2026 meta-analysis of 17 studies and 1,111 participants found that adding PRP to microneedling roughly tripled the odds of an excellent result. It improves skin quality. It does not add volume, lift loose skin or replace filler.

Key points

  • In the 2026 meta-analysis in Archives of Dermatological Research, microneedling plus PRP was about 3 times more likely than microneedling alone to produce an excellent result for acne scars, with a risk ratio of 3.05.

  • Side effects, including redness, swelling, discomfort and pigmentation, were similar with or without PRP, so adding it did not add risk.

  • A course is usually 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, with results building over 2 to 3 months.

  • Leading central London clinics, including in Knightsbridge, charge from around £400 per session, so a course of 3 commonly reaches £1,200 or more.

What a PRP facial is

The two ways it is delivered

A small sample of your blood is spun to concentrate the platelets. The plasma then reaches the skin in one of two ways.

Microneedling with PRP. A device creates thousands of tiny channels in the skin, and the plasma is applied across the surface so it passes into them. This is the classic vampire facial and the method with the strongest evidence, particularly for acne scars and texture.

Injected PRP. The plasma is placed directly into the skin with fine needles, often under the eyes or into specific areas of thinning or fine lines. This targets particular zones more precisely.

Many treatments combine both. A doctor chooses the method based on what you want to improve.

Why it helps

Platelets carry growth factors that the skin uses to repair and remodel. Microneedling triggers the skin's own repair response. Adding concentrated growth factors is intended to strengthen that response and improve collagen, thickness and texture.

What the evidence shows

Acne scars

This is where the evidence is strongest. The 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis in Archives of Dermatological Research pooled 17 studies with 1,111 participants. Compared with microneedling alone, microneedling plus PRP produced greater improvement on the standard acne scar grading scale. Patients were about 3 times as likely to achieve an excellent result, defined as more than 2 grades of improvement. Side effects were no different between the groups.

General skin quality and ageing

For texture, dullness, fine lines and thin skin more broadly, PRP is widely used and well tolerated. The trial evidence is smaller and less consistent than for acne scarring. It is reasonable to expect a gradual improvement in skin quality. It is not reasonable to expect the change a filler or a surgical procedure produces.

Under the eyes

PRP can improve thin, crepey under-eye skin with a bluish tinge. It does not fill a hollow or treat bags from fat pushing forward. Those need volume or surgery, as set out in tear trough treatment London.

Who a PRP facial suits

Good candidates

People with rolling or boxcar acne scars. People with dull, uneven or rough texture. People with thin, crepey skin, including under the eyes. People who want gradual, natural-looking improvement from their own biology rather than a product. People who have reacted badly to other treatments, since allergic reaction to your own plasma is very unlikely.

Who it does not suit

People whose main concern is volume loss or hollowing, which needs volume replacement. People whose main concern is sagging or jowling, which is structural. People with active acne, active skin infection or cold sores in the area, a very low platelet count or platelet disorders, or who are pregnant. People who need a visible result within days, since it builds over weeks.

The most common disappointment is the right treatment for the wrong problem. Our framework for telling skin quality, volume and structure apart is in which facial treatment you actually need.

What treatment involves

On the day

Allow around 60 to 75 minutes. A numbing cream is applied first. The blood draw and preparation take place while it works. Microneedling feels like light scratching under the numbing cream, and injections feel like brief pinches.

Downtime

After microneedling with PRP, expect redness similar to mild sunburn for 24 to 72 hours, sometimes with slight swelling. After injected PRP, small bumps settle within hours, and bruising is possible, especially under the eyes. Avoid make-up for 24 hours, and avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and direct sun for 48 hours. Use a high-factor sunscreen daily afterwards.

The course

Usually 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Improvement builds over 2 to 3 months, with maintenance every 6 to 12 months. For acne scars, more sessions are sometimes recommended.

Timing before an event

Never have a first PRP facial within 6 weeks of a wedding or major occasion. Allow at least 2 weeks after any session, and longer for under-eye work. The full countdown is in the wedding skin and hair timeline.

PRP facial compared with the alternatives

Polynucleotides. Also bio-stimulators that improve skin quality, often combined with PRP. They are especially popular under the eyes. The evidence base is promising but smaller. See polynucleotide injections.

Microneedling alone. Effective for texture and acne scars. The meta-analysis shows adding PRP makes an excellent result more likely.

Filler. Adds volume and works immediately, but does not improve skin quality and carries specific under-eye risks.

Laser resurfacing. Stronger for some scars and pigmentation, with more downtime, and it needs particular care in darker skin tones.

What a PRP facial costs in London

Leading central London clinics, including in Knightsbridge, charge from around £400 per PRP facial session, and doctor-led under-eye and facial regenerative work commonly runs £400 to £850 per session or course. Because a course is usually 3 sessions, the realistic figure to plan around at that tier is £1,200 or more before maintenance.

At the lower end you will find facials advertised from around £120 to £300. That usually means a smaller volume of plasma, a different preparation, a non-medical practitioner and no assessment of whether your concern is skin quality at all.

Our care is doctor-led and priced below flagship central London rates, with your plan and figure confirmed after your free suitability review.

The suitability review

Every enquiry begins with a free doctor-led suitability review rather than a booking. A GMC-registered doctor assesses your skin, works out whether your concern is skin quality, volume or structure, and gives one of two answers.

Approved for treatment, with the method, how many sessions, a realistic result and the cost. Or not approved, with an honest explanation of what would serve you better. That might be volume, a different skin treatment, or simply better daily sun protection and skincare.

We decline a meaningful share of facial enquiries, because the face is where the wrong treatment does the most visible harm.
